What a Small World!

When you are in the NICU, you don't really get to meet or see the other babies, but you see the parents in the hallways, cafeteria and parking ramp. It's hard to explain, but you kind of form an unspoken bond with these people because they know exactly what you are going through. in fact, one day while we were there, Owen's nurse brought a gift in for me from a mom down the hall. She saw me crying in the hallway one night as I struggled to leave Owen for the first time and she knew exactly how my heart was breaking. She wrote me a really sweet note and put it with some goodies for Owen. It was a real blessing to know that we weren't alone and that other people were walking in the same shoes. Some had it much, much worse than we did!

On Monday, Owen and I were at his doctor's appointment and in walked one of the other "NICU moms," Dana and her baby Micah. It was so great to see him doing well! He's had a few surgeries and has one more to go, but he looked wonderful. We exchanged email addresses and are planning to get together and have a play date.

Earlier in the summer, I was at work and ran into another "NICU mom," Jenny, who I actually went to high school with. Her twins Ben and Norah couldn't be any cuter. They are so smiley and have really flourished too.

I was so excited to see that all 3 babies are doing so well. Children's is a wonderful place that performs miracles and I think I can speak for Jenny and Dana both when I say that our babies were in the very best hands possible, and we couldn't be more grateful.
