Cheering on Mommy

Yesterday was a very busy day for us!  We started off in Hudson at the Dash for Dads 5k event.  I've been doing a Couch to 5k training program and it was the first of a few races that I am signed up for this summer.  It was a VERY tough course.  It was humid and extremely hilly.  After about 3/4 of a mile, it started to rain.  So I had several things going against me. :(  My goal this summer is to not have to walk any of my 5ks, so I was bummed when I had to walk some of this one.  As I hit the home stretch, I heard a big chorus of voices calling my name.  I was a little confused because this was not a large race - maybe 100 runners total.  Only two people at the finish line knew my name - Paul and Owen!  However, as I crossed the finish line, I realized that my two friends Julie and Lisa, and Lisa's kids, Nicholas and Lindsey, had come out to cheer me on too!  What an amazing feeling to have a "surprise" cheer sqaud helping me to finish strong.  I am very lucky!

This race was in honor of Dick Anderson, my friend Pammy's dad, who lost his battle with cancer in 2010.  He was a great man with an infectious smile!  Pammy was my college roomie and I am so glad that we were able to do this race together!
After the race, we stopped at Pammy's house to change and Owen got to meet her doggie, Rosco, and her kitties, Dave and Cheeto.  He was in heaven!  Then, we headed to the Touch a Truck event in River Falls.  Thanks to Auntie Pammy for telling us about it!  Owen was a little overwhelmed (in a good way) by all of the trucks - fire trucks, cement trucks, news trucks, tow trucks, garbage trucks, a helicopter, even a Golden Plump Chickenmobile!  He was a little nervous to stand by the vehicles because he gets afraid when vehicles honk, so I didn't get a lot of great photos.  Then some of the kids started to honk the horns and he got really scared.  We had to leave, but I think he really had a good time seeing all of the big trucks!

Probably his favorite part was the school bus!

We enjoyed lunch with Auntie Pammy, then headed for home to nap.  After O woke up, we went to my cousin Dalton's grad party.  They live on a farm and Owen was in heaven again getting to see all of the tractors and combines and getting to run around like a crazy man.
