3 Day Potty Training: Day 2

Last night I had Owen use the potty chair twice before putting him to bed.  An hour after he went to bed, I got him up to go again, per the book.  He went right back to sleep, but awoke at 11:30 because of the strong winds and "thunder boomies."  He went again then.  I got him up at 4:30 to go again and at 6:30 when he got up, his bed was dry!  Yeayyy!  Hopefully before long, we won't need to get him up in the night to go!

Today started off much like yesterday, with lots of accidents.  He knows what he is supposed to do, but when we are giving him so many fluids, I think he just forgets.  Or just can't read his own signals yet.  He always looks down as he's going, so he gets that he is not dry any longer.

We had a huge breakthrough when it comes to pooping on the potty today.  I knew he had to go because it was about that time and he kept whispering to himself about "no poo poo," but with this program, you don't ask if they want to go, you tell them to let you know when they have to go so that there isn't a power struggle.  You also don't put them on the potty and just wait until they have to go becuase the child can take that as a punishment.  It's really hard though when you know they have to go, but have to wait for them to make the move!  I kept watching him and reminding him.  He finally started to go in his pants and I scooped him up and ran to the bathroom.  Per the book, you are supposed to dump the undies into the toilet and then put them on the toilet so they can finish.  She talks a lot about kids feeling like they want privacy, so I put him on the potty and asked if he wanted me to walk away for a minute.  He said yes, so I stood outside.  Sure enough, he started to grunt and did a great job finishing in the potty all on his own!  That was the VERY first time we've gotten him to poop on the potty.  After that, he told me that he had to go potty and ran to the bathroom three times.

He had several accidents between nap and bedtime. Before bed, he went potty twice.  The night went well. I woke him up after he had been sleeping for an hour. He sat on the potty, but wasn't able to go. I woke him at 3:45 and at 5:50 and he went both of those times. At 6:30, he got up for good dry.  Few people see success in the first two days, so hopefully day 3 is the charm for us.
