3 Day Potty Training: Day 3

Grrr, Day 3 did it. I got frustrated.  I went into the 3 Day program with fairly low expectations, but we aren't making much progress.  He just isn't telling me that he has to go.  After peeing in his pants all day on Day 3, he told me that he had to go once in the evening.  He knows he is about to pee because he stops, looks down and watches it fall. :(  I have never touched more pee in my ENTIRE life!!!  The idea is that you are their shadow (literally) for three days and as an accident starts to happen, you catch it, grab them and run for the bathroom so that they can finish on the toilet and learn that this is where pee or poop goes.  The plan highly discourages pull-ups because then you can't see the accident happening and you lose the teaching moment.  I get that, but honestly, I am so tempted right now.  I almost wish I hadn't bought them before deciding to do this!

After trying really hard to decide if I should stay home a 4th day to try to get it all to set in, I talked to Ronda.  She was not at all concerned about him going to her house and actually used the words "stoked" and "excited."  She went out and bought pull-ups for Liam and Sully so that she could work with them.  She swears that it will be easier when they are together and they compete.  I can't lie - I was really excited that she would take him because I needed to get out of the house after three days of solitary confinement on pee patrol.  So I loaded up a bunch of supplies for her (the stack of 25 pairs of undies made her eyes get pretty big!) and we headed over there.  I stripped Owen down to just his undies and when the other boys arrived, they were so curious.  Liam walked up and patted Owen on the back and said, "Nice Owen!"  It was pretty cute!

When I picked him up this afternoon, Ronda hadn't pulled out all of her hair!  She said he did well in the morning, but had accidents in the afternoon.  However, they all were working on it, so I think that helped.  He had one accident tonight, but went on the potty a few times.  I think now that the 3 Day program is "done" and wasn't overly successful, we'll have to start incorporating more "Let's go sit on the potty" suggestions instead of simply reminding him to tell us when he has to go.  Ronda said that she thinks he is ready and it will be clicking soon.  Let's hope so!
