The doctor came in during rounds today to tell me that they are going to do an ultrasound of Owen's head today around 1-2PM. The night that Owen was born, one of the doctors from the NICU came to my room to explain to Paul and me some of the possible complications a baby his age can suffer from. He mentioned cerebral palsy, blindness and deafness. When Owen is around 34 weeks they will do a vision test on him - dilate his eyes, check his retinas, etc. Today, they are going to do an ultrasound on his soft spot. This is to check for blood on his brain, which would indicate cerebral palsy. They said that they think he is fine though, so not to worry. The ultrasound tech stopped in to let me know that they won't know the results until late today or even tomorrow. So, keep your fingers crossed that all looks good!
When I got in this morning, the nurse said that he had a really "pukey" night. She had to change out his bedding 4 times. Typically, they increase the feedings pretty aggressively so that the baby gets the nutrients that they need to grow. However, Owen spits up quite a bit of what he is getting after multiple feedings each day. Paul and I feel like he'd be better off getting less food each feeding and being able to keep it down. The doctor agreed that we may need to back his food up a little bit. So starting at 8AM this morning, he went from 27ml down to 25ml. So far, so good - no spit ups yet! He will eat again at 11AM. My hope is that if we can stay at 25ml for a day or so, it will give his tummy time to adjust before we up it again.
I forgot to post this photo of Owen meeting his Great Grandma Flossie on Friday night. She kept saying, "In all my years, I've never seen one that small!" At one point, she looked at me and said, "If I live long enough, I am going to SPOIL him!" I told her she certainly would live long enough, but that she had to promise not to spoil him toooo much. After she left, one of the nurses asked Paul how old she was and said that it is pretty rare to have Great Grandparents that are able to visit babies in the NICU.

No Photos Please!
